Bago City College Celebrates 70 Years of Japan–Philippines Friendship at OISCA Philippines Day

Bago City College (BCC), through its Office of Linkages and International Affairs (OLIA), proudly participated in OISCA Philippines Day: A Historical Journey and Cultural Diplomacy, a celebration commemorating the 70th anniversary of friendship between Japan and the Philippines.

The event brought together partners and stakeholders to celebrate seven decades of diplomatic relations, cultural exchange, and cooperation between the two nations, highlighting the importance of strengthening international partnerships through shared values and meaningful engagement.

Representing Bago City College were College President Dr. Rowena V. Bañes, OLIA Coordinator Mrs. Charry A. Maguad, and Departmental Internationalization Champions Ms. Khycy Janz Alvarez and Ms. Liezl Medado.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the judo exhibition presented by the Bago City College Judo Club. The performance showcased the students’ discipline, skills, respect, and sportsmanship, reflecting the values deeply rooted in Japanese martial arts. Through their demonstration, the students emphasized how sports can serve as a powerful platform for cultural appreciation, mutual understanding, and friendship beyond national borders.

Beyond commemorating the longstanding relationship between Japan and the Philippines, the celebration underscored the significant role of cultural and sports diplomacy in bringing communities together. It also provided an opportunity to recognize the importance of international cooperation in promoting educational development, cultural awareness, and people-to-people connections.

Bago City College extends its sincere appreciation to OISCA Philippines for its continued partnership and valuable contributions to the College’s internationalization efforts. Through this collaboration, BCC continues to strengthen opportunities for cultural exchange, international learning, and meaningful engagement with global partners.

The College’s participation in this significant celebration reflects its continuing commitment to advancing internationalization, fostering cross-cultural understanding, and preparing students to become globally engaged and culturally responsive individuals.

As Japan and the Philippines celebrate 70 years of friendship, Bago City College looks forward to further strengthening its partnership with OISCA Philippines and supporting initiatives that promote education, cultural diplomacy, and lasting international cooperation.
